My Mission

My name is Connie. I am an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). As a certified victim's advocate for the prevention of CSA and the healing of adult survivors.  This mission is close to my heart.

As a volunteer community educator, I provide free CSA prevention education for parents and youth organizations. I am not a therapist or psychiatrist. What I share comes solely from my own journey through trauma and healing.

Statistics for the magnitude of the problem are indicated below.

Organizations that support survivors and advocate for their rights include the Army of Survivors, Keep Kids Safe, National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse (NAASCA), Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), SNAP – Survivors Network of those Abused By Priests, Saprea, After Silence, Male Survivor, Road to Recovery, Inc., and Survivor Space. Organizations focused on prevention and advocacy are the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), Zero Abuse Project, Prevent Together, Prevent Child Abuse America, and Together for Girls.

UNICEF estimates that over 370 million girls and women and 240 to 310 million boys and men alive today experienced rape or sexual assault as children.

NAASCA believes that as many as 50 to 60 million American adults were sexually abused in their childhood.

Studies cited by the National Center for Victims of Crime indicate that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys are victims of child sexual abuse.

That’s an unimaginable number of people living with pain, guilt, shame, and emotional scars.  The trauma was physical, emotional, and mental, continuing well into my adult life. As a child, I didn’t have the language or understanding to explain what had happened to me. The suffering was unbearable. It took many years for me to face and acknowledge what happened to me; that childhood pain began when I was nine years old. The trauma inflicted on me lasted for about four years; It was an extended time of physical, emotional, and mental pain long into my adult years.

Today, my desire is to help others who have lived through CSA. I want to offer hope through healing resources and support for mending the broken pieces of the trauma. You deserve relief. You deserve peace.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapy was my saving grace. I also had the opportunity to attend a powerful retreat for women survivors of CSA, specifically those who experienced abuse before the age of 18. The retreat itself is free; participants only cover travel costs.

I want to acknowledge that men also experience CSA, and they are absolutely part of this conversation. Healing is not exclusive to any one gender—every survivor deserves the chance to heal.

My mission is twofold: to prevent children from experiencing this pain and to help adult survivors find the resources they need to heal.

You can find healing.     You can find hope.   You are not alone.
